Palgrove has the largest registered herd of Charolais cattle in Australia, with over 2000 females plus an extensive embryo transplant program.
In the last ten years, Palgrove has focused on increasing the number of polled cattle we produce in response to client demand. We now have the largest polled herd in the country with over 1,000 polled breeding females, with this number increasing substantially every year.
Our cow herd is bred to be moderate framed, functional, very fertile and commercially focused.
Our Charolais offer the complete crossbreeding package over Bos Indicus or British breed females to produce grass-fed or feedlot progeny that will suit premium markets. Don’t under estimate the hybrid vigour ‘free lunch’ and the real profits our Charolais bulls can add to a cross breeding program.
Our investment in breeding, recording and data has enabled us to help shape the breed into the functional and market adaptable cattle they have become today.
Red Rock was retained and is everything we look for in a modern day Charolais bull – medium framed, thick as a brick, easy fleshing with the added sire appeal.
He has bred in predictability in his pedigree combining Next Gen over a Holster daughter. Used heavily as a walking sire and AI in the spring of 2022.

We have used Rockerfella heavily in AI for the spring 2022 join – We love his carcase shape and softness, he’s deep ribbed; thick butted with that strength of head and fleshing that is difficult to find in a homozygous polled package.
We considered Platinum the ‘complete package’ when he sold in 2021 for $48,000. He’s medium framed, thick butted with that natural balance and constitution you expect in a top breeding bull.
His combination of Hallmark over a Bond daughter has clicked perfectly. His first sons sell in 2023 and they will feature in both our Hunter Valley and Annual Sale drafts, you won’t miss them!!

Sir Gridmaker is a true calving ease specialist without losing the ‘grunt’ that we insist on maintaining in our polled breeding program. National Champion Charolais Bull in Canada 2011 with Australian semen rights owned exclusively by Palgrove.
He is top 5% of the breed for Gestation Length and low Birth Weight and has complimented our breeding herd to ensure calving ease remains a No. 1 priority at Palgrove.
Gallant is a low birth weight polled, sire that has been a standout since he was a calf. His pedigree is about as reliable as bloodlines get. He has an awesome temperament and real strength of loin and plenty of length.
He is an extremely well balanced bull physically and genetically carries top end of the breed EBVs for Scrotal Size, Milk, Growth and Carcass.
Our new polled sire from New Zealand has proven himself to be a standout performer for the Silverstream herd. The quality in his progeny is eye-catching and he calves easily but maintains the substance and bone that is essential in harsher environments.
Canadian semen rights were purchased at Agribition in 2013 for $22,500NZ. His semen has been limited in Australia to only two studs and Palgrove is excited by the prospects of this new outcross sire.

Quintero was one of Palgrove’s benchmark sires. He remained totally sound and active until 12 years of age and his numerous daughters born at Palgrove formed the backbone of the stud in the Nineties.
His sons were sought-after for their strong constitution, tremendous length and performance.

Prime Mover was a true breed legend! It’s hard to put a value on the influence that his daughters have had at Palgrove. He was used heavily for many years and he left female progeny with volume, perfect udders that are in turn breeding the house down.
His sons were always ‘sale toppers’ with exceptional Muscling and Growth.
Trait Leader for 400 Day and 600 Day Wt.
Tribute left a valuable legacy at Palgrove with his exceptional daughters. His daughters had beautiful udders and nearly all were retained in the herd with the carry-on effect large lines of consistently bred ‘Tribute’ based pedigrees in the herd today.
