21 July 2025 Media Release
In a landmark shift for one of Australia’s most respected seedstock operations, Palgrove has announced the sale of its entire Charolais herd following a strategic review to streamline operations and accelerate the growth of its Ultrablack program.
Established more than 55 years ago, the Palgrove stud prefix is renowned as a breed pioneer and producer of the world’s preeminent Charolais genetics and, more recently, a foundational leader in the growth of the Ultrablack breed across Australia.
Palgrove Chief Executive Officer, Will Heath, said the entire Charolais herd had been purchased by long-time Palgrove employees Ben and Gemma Noller, in partnership with Simon and Mym Daley and family, from Western Queensland.
The new owners will continue to operate under the Palgrove Charolais name and herd prefix, with the majority of the herd remaining on leased land at the Palgrove Charolais herd’s current base at Ben Lomond, NSW. The purchase includes the entire Charolais herd, pregnant recipients, embryos, a portion of the semen inventory, and all male progeny born in 2024.
Palgrove will retain the Palgrove Ultrablack stud prefix, while the Noller and Daley families will assume ownership of the Palgrove Charolais name.
Currently, Palgrove sells 1,000 bulls each year, 600-to-700 of which are Ultrablack, while 300-to-400 are Charolais. Following completion of the sale of the Charolais herd, clients can expect a similar number of bulls to be available from the two businesses including 100 of each breed at the Palgrove Annual Sale.
“The decision to sell the Charolais component of Palgrove’s operations has not been made lightly and comes after a detailed strategic review confirmed that our position as a leader in Australian beef production would be consolidated by simplifying our operations to focus on the growth of the Ultrablack business,” Mr Heath said.
“Ben and Gemma have been integral to the success of both the Palgrove Charolais and Ultrablack programs over the past eight years and we are pleased to be able to transition ownership of the full Charolais herd to them, along with the Daley Family.
“We’re also pleased to retain Ben’s expertise to maintain strong client relationships across both breeds, while also supporting the continued growth of our Ultrablack program alongside our new Ultrablack Seedstock Manager, George Stacey.”
Ben Noller said Palgrove Charolais was one of the most recognised Charolais programs in the world.
“This Charolais herd has been at the heart of Palgrove for more than 55 years,” Mr Noller said.
“It’s difficult to put into words what this means to us. To have the opportunity to purchase the entire herd and continue the legacy, while keeping the Palgrove Charolais name alive, is a real honour.
“This herd shaped our careers, and the people around the breed have shaped our lives. For myself and Gemma, continuing the Palgrove Charolais legacy with the Daley Family by our side excites us about what’s ahead.”
As long-time users of Palgrove genetics in their commercial breeding program, Simon Daley said his family was proud to help carry the name into the future.
“We’ve followed and supported Palgrove for many years,” Mr Daley said.
“Ben and Gemma share our values – passion, hard work, and integrity – and we’re proud to back them on this journey.”

Smooth Transition for Buyers
The Palgrove company, and the Noller and Daley families, will jointly offer bulls at the annual Palgrove Sale to ensure a seamless transition for all clients.
“From the outset, the priority has been to ensure a smooth transition for clients and both teams will continue to collaborate and sell together at the annual sale,” Mr Noller said.
“The 2025 Annual Bull Sale, and future sales, won’t feel any different to clients. We’ll continue to offer around 100 bulls from both breeds. Clients can also expect a similar number of bulls to be available through paddock sales, and over the next two-to-four years, we’ll see even more Ultrablack bulls available out of the paddock as Palgrove’s focus on the Ultrablack breed supports the growth of its Ultrablack business.”
