Back to Back Paddock to Palate Win

Palgrove has taken top honours in one of Australia’s most prestigious commercial cattle competitions for a second year in a row.

Following on from our win in 2018, Palgrove was again named the Overall Winner (100 Day class) and Runner Up in the ‘blue ribbon’ Paddock to Palate competition held at the Brisbane Ekka 2019.

Palgrove’s results were as follows:

Overall Winner – 100 day (Charolais)

Runner Up – 100 Day (Charolais)

Weight Gain 100 day (Charolais) (3.095ADG)

Champion Pen – Carcase 100 day (Charolais)

Champion Carcase 100D (Ultrablack x Charolais)

3rd Eating Quality 100D (Ultrablack x Charolais)

Some of Australia’s best producers participate in what is the now country’s richest cattle competition. The competition provides Palgrove with an opportunity to benchmark our steers against the best and validate the commercial production focus we place on our genetics.

Now in its twentieth year, the event attracted the nation’s top beef producers and saw over 1,000 steers entered (up almost 25% on the previous year).

The competition consists of three phases. The Overall Winner is awarded on the best aggregate points for a) feedlot weight gain b) carcase appraisal and c) MSA eating quality points.

Since we started entering in 2016, we are very pleased with the consistent performance of the Palgrove commercial cattle in this competition.

We congratulate the RNA cattle committee, Mort & Co and JBS for the foresight to organise this prestigious and ‘industry relevant’ event. Palgrove’s winning weight gain beef was featured on the Menu at the Boatshed Restaurant, Regatta Hotel in Brisbane during the Ekka. We sampled more than a few delicious steaks and were thrilled to hear that it has received such great feedback from the customers.
